ILOILO City – Three hundred forty-five new police officers – 96 of them women – completed six months of training yesterday at the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
Iloilo province had the most number of police graduates (rank of Police Officer 1) at 139. Capiz had 76; Aklan and Antique, 41 each; Iloilo City, 36; and Guimaras, 12.
PRO-6 was supposed to recruit 400 new police officers but only 345 applicants qualified and successfully completed the training, said Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, regional police spokesperson.
“Thousands of aspiring police officers actually applied,” he revealed.
The six months of training was “rigid”, said Gorero.
But the 345 new police officers won’t be deployed to the field yet. Gorero said they would be sent to the PRO-6’s Regional Training Center in Negros Occidental for another six months of training.
Three hundred four of the new Police Officers 1 were Criminology graduates while 40 were graduates of other courses. Twenty of these new police officers graduated cum laude in college.
“We have to continue our recruitment. We have to select the best police officers,” said Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, regional police director.
The recruitment aims to maximize police visibility.
