SAN JOSE, Antique – A Sangguniang Panlalawigan member proposed a “Sports Summit” to help Antique prepare for this year’s Palarong Pambansa.

For the first time, Antique is hosting the biggest interschool sporting event organized by the Department of Education in April.

“We have a little more than three months to prepare for Palarong Pambansa, and we better be prepared,” said Julius Cesar Tajanlangit, Philippine Councilors’ League-Antique president and ex-officio Provincial Board.

Tajanlangit said the locals themselves — not just the game venues and the billeting areas — must be ready.

“We have to ensure that Antiqueños are ready to accommodate the estimated 20,000 people who will be staying with us for at least 10 days,” the Board member said.

While they are familiar with the Palaro and excited about it, they must be further educated about the competition, he said.

Sports personalities will be invited to give lectures and insights.

“Part of the Sports Summit will be discussions on the role of the police and the community in peace and order,” Tajanlangit said.

Orderliness during the duration of the sporting competition is important, he said.

“Everybody should do [their] part because each one of us has an equally important part in this,” said the Board member. “Every Antiqueño has a role to play to make our hosting successful.” (PNA)
