MANILA – Motolite Power Builders bucked the absence of Myla Pablo to score a 25-16, 25-21, 19-25, 29-31, 19-17 win over BanKo-Perlas Lady Spikers in the 2019 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the San Juan Arena.
Diana Carlos and Maria Lina Molde took the scoring chores in lieu of Pablo, with the former erupting for 29 points. The latter, on the other hand, finished with double-double 24 points and 18 excellent digs.
The former University of the Philippines Lady Maroons duo were most effective in the deciding fifth set. They turned an 11-8 deficit to a 13-12 advantage.
From a 17-all score, the Lady Spikers committed back-to-back errors to close the match.
“Wala naman kaming choice kasi wala nang ibang magsi-step up sa team kundi kaming mga open spikers, especially si Ate Myla. Malaking kawalan talaga siya sa amin,” Carlos said. “Kinausap naman kami ni coach about it and kailangan talaga namin mag-step up.”
For hert part, Molde added: “Lahat naman nag-contribute noong fifth set. Siguro kami lang ang pumatay, pero lahat nag-contribute rin.” Nicole Tiamzon and Angelique Gervacio had an offensive onslaught with the former topping her team with 24 points from 20 attacks and three kill blocks, while the latter pouring in a triple-double of 21 markers on top of 16 excellent receptions and 15 excellent digs./PN
