BACOLOD City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) condemned the ambush of a police patrol car of the Binalbagan, Negros Occidental municipal police station on Feb. 13.
Police Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, regional police director, called the New People’s Army (NPA) “deceitful and coward”.
He vowed to investigate the ambush and run after those responsible for the attack.
Meanwhile, Police Major Ellendie Rebusquillo, Binalbagan town police chief, believe the shooting incident that took place hours prior to the ambush may have also been perpetrated by the NPA rebels in order to lure their police personnel into a trap.
The victim in the shooting was 29-year-old Berdito Roso, a farm laborer.
Based on a statement given by Roso’s wife to police, four Cebuano-speaking men approached her and asked for the whereabouts of her husband as he owed them money.
Roso’s wife also recalled seeing two other men nearby, and believed they were serving as lookouts. She described the men as armed.
Upon seeing the suspects, her husband tried to run away but the men opened fire, hitting Roso.
Police also performed a background check on Roso, and he didn’t have any criminal records./PN
