ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has a new Public Information Officer (PIO).
Effective yesterday, Police Lieutenant Colonel Arnel Solis assumed the post of Police Lieutenant Colonel Joem Malong who was relieved from her post effective Aug. 27.
Solis was Malong’s classmate at the Philippine National Police Academy (Class 2006).
Malong, who served as the PRO-6’s spokesperson for three years, will be the new police station chief of Bago City, Negros Occidental. She will hold a police station as part of her career advancement.
Malong had served four regional directors – retired General Cesar Hawthorne Binag, retired General John Bulalacao, retired Rene Pamuspusan and PRO-6’s present director, Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda.
“It is hard to leave my post. I already established friendship with the media, but I have to move out to experience another assignment, especially in handling personnel in a police station. I am very thankful to the media, especially the Iloilo media, for their support despite my shortcomings,” Malong said.
On the other hand, Solis sees his new assignment as a challenge.
“Iba ang role mo when you are a spokesperson,” Solis said. “Medyo nakulbaan ko how to deal with the media, but I’m open to suggestions.”
“My phone is open 24/7,” he added. “Rest assured that I will do my best to answer all the queries.”
Solis previously served as police chief of Ivisan, Capiz and Barotac Nuevo, Zarraga and Miag-ao in Iloilo.
“I served for nine years in Iloilo and was once assigned in Capiz for two years and in Negros Occidental. My new assignment is an additional learning experience,” Solis said.
Solis was chosen by the PRO-6 board among other recommendees.
