PRO-6 nets 738 in intensified anti-illegal gambling drive in Q1

ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) ramped up its campaign against illegal gambling across Western Visayas during the first quarter of 2026, recording a massive surge in operations and arrests.

From January 1 to March 31, the regional police carried out 305 operations, leading to the arrest of 738 individuals and the confiscation of P 327,404.30 in bet money.

PRO-6 said this marks a staggering 400% increase in activity compared to the same period in 2025, which saw only 61 operations, 174 arrests, and P67,136 in confiscated bet money.

The crackdown was bolstered by strong performances from the following:

* Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) – 327 arrests from 117 operations, and

* Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) – 188 arrests from 104 operations,

PRO-6 director, Police Brigadier General Josefino D. Ligan, lauded the operating units for their dedication and emphasized that these sustained efforts are vital for community protection.

“Our intensified operations show our strong commitment to stop illegal gambling. We commend our personnel and partner agencies for their dedication and vigilance. PRO-6 will continue to enforce the law and protect our communities,” Ligan said./PN
