ANTIQUE — The Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development (DOH WV CHD), in partnership with the Provincial DOH Office (PDOHO) Antique, the local government of Hamtic, and the barangays of Funda, Guintas, and Linaban, conducted the PuroKalusugan Grand Health Caravan on March 24.
Held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Guintas Covered Gym, the event highlighted the government’s push to make essential health services more accessible, especially in underserved communities.
The caravan delivered a wide range of free health services, including PhilHealth registration, Yakap enrollment, chest X-ray examinations, and consultations through the DOH “KnowTell” mobile clinic.
Residents also availed themselves of vital health screenings such as blood sugar testing, HIV and syphilis screening, as well as the distribution of preventive commodities and essential medicines.
Preventive care and health education were key components of the initiative. Services included cervical cancer screening, clinical breast examination, nutrition counseling, dental services, maternal and child healthcare, and screening for hypertension and diabetes. Tuberculosis control services and anti-rabies vaccinations for pets were also provided.
Beyond medical services, the caravan emphasized health education. Through interactive discussions, healthcare workers raised awareness on communicable and lifestyle-related diseases, encouraging residents to take a more proactive role in managing their health.
The activity underscored the importance of collaboration among national agencies, local government units, and community stakeholders in delivering inclusive and responsive healthcare services, particularly in geographically isolated areas.
DOH Western Visayas said the initiative is part of its continuing efforts to strengthen community engagement, build public trust, and ensure that no Filipino is left behind in accessing quality healthcare.
Among those present were key health officials and local leaders, including Rosabel Cristie P. Naranjo, RN, MPA; Mirven Remu M. Lavilla, RN, MPM-HSD; Rica Marie T. Adrada, RN, MPA; Dr. Rommel B. Garganera; Hamtic Mayor Julius Pierre R. Pacificador; Dra. Ma. Eva D. Pacificador; and Dr. Ken Adriel Ledesma.
Barangay officials who attended included Jessie D. Seguera of Guintas, Glorie Sarah Jane O. Moreno of Funda, and Vicente Delgado of Linaban, who expressed support for sustained community-based health initiatives./PN
