ILOILO City – This weekend’s Dinagyang Festival could be rainy, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
It would be partly cloudy with light to moderate rain and wind speed of from 30 km to 40 km per hour, said Ronaldo Naragdao, officer-in-charge of Pagasa-Iloilo.
Jan. 21 and 22 are the festival highlights. The Kasadyahan cultural contest is on Saturday while the ati-ati tribes competition is on Sunday.
Naragdao said there was no more low pressure area (LPA) in Western Visayas but the prevailing tail-end of the cold-front and northeast monsoon were causing the gloomy weather condition.
On Jan. 16, Bacolod City-bound fast crafts from here were prevented from leaving following a gale warning from Pagasa.
Small fishermen were also advised not to set out to sea.
Iloilo City-bound fast crafts from Bacolod were cancelled, too, according to Lieutenant Commander Ramil Palabrica of the Philippine Coast Guard-Iloilo.
But bigger roll on, roll off (ro-ro) vessels were allowed to leave ports, clarified Palabrica.
Another gale warning was issued the following day, also resulting to the cancellation of Bacolod-bound fast crafts./PN
