MANILA – NLEX Road Warriors rookie Kiefer Ravena will be leading the 15-man Gilas Pilipinas pool in the second qualifying window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifier next month.
Aside from the Ilonggo guard, also in the roster are Jayson Castro, June Mar Fajardo, Matthew Wright, Jeth Troy Rosario, Allein Maliksi, Roger Pogoy, Gabe Norwood, Calvin Abueva, Japeth Aguilar, and Kevin Alas.
Also in the lineup are Raymond Almazan, Rey Mark Belo, Carl Bryan Cruz, and Jiovani Jalalon.
Naturalized center Andray Blatche was not mentioned but could likely be available for February.
Gilas head coach Vincent “Chot” Reyes said the 15 players will start their once a week training on Jan. 8. The team will be trimmed to 12 a day before the competition.
“Just got clearance from PBA OIC Willie Marcial for Gilas to start its Monday only practices,” Reyes said.
Gilas is currently unbeaten in its group match after winning its first two matches against Japan, 77-71, on Nov. 24 in Tokyo and against Chinese-Taipei, 90-83, on Nov. 27 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
In the second window of the FIBA World Cup qualifier, Gilas will first face Australia on Feb. 22 at the Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne before playing host to Japan two days after./PN
