MANILA – Six teams, including school-based varsity squads, are set to compete when the 1st Panay Big Shots Sports Basketball League opens today at the Katilingban Gymnasium in Molo, Iloilo City.
Participating in the tournament are the University of San Agustin, Solane (selection of players from University of Iloilo and Hercor College), Toto Tia Ten, Cordon Team, Star VA Sports Asialink, and JAV Calibration.
Tournament organizer Rudolf Jeffrey Ganzon said the tournament aims to develop and discover local players so each team is not allowed to get players outside of Panay area.
“Allowed ang tagsa ka mga teams nga magkuha sang mga players only in Panay,” Ganzon said. “Dugang pa sini nga may mga varsity players diri sa Iloilo nga nagahampang sa liga.”
The games will start at 3 p.m. today with the tournament, which is part of the Dinagyang Festival activities, lasting until Jan. 21./PN
