ILOILO – The Regional Development Council (RDC) 6 has approved port projects, among other initiatives, during its recent fourth-quarter meeting.
It endorsed the port zone delineation plan for the ports in Sibunag, Guimaras and Concepcion, Iloilo, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region 6 said in a press release.
The council effectively placed both ports under the administrative jurisdiction of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) and the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority.
Meanwhile the RDC approved the rehabilitation and improvement of the Concepcion Fish Port under a grant from the Korea International Cooperation Agency.
It also endorsed various road and bridge projects in the city and province of Iloilo for inclusion in the Convergence Program of the Department of Tourism and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Moreover the RDC called on the PPA to formulate guidelines prescribing the minimum passenger facilities for local government-operated ports for passenger vessels and the DPWH to facilitate the transfer and issuance of new land titles to private landowners affected by road right-of-way acquisition.
Furthermore the council asked the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council to create a technical working group that will review the functions and compositions of the local housing boards, and the RDC sector committees to convene as planning committees for the formulation of the Regional Development Plan 2017-2022.
There is also a need to strengthen growth centers, develop the countryside and assist farm workers to become farm entrepreneurs, the RDC acting chairwoman, NEDA regional director Ro-Ann Bacal, told council members. (PIA/PN)
