BACOLOD City – Liga ng mga Barangay president Lady Gles Pallen, village chief of Taculing, is seeking re-election.
This city is composed of 61 barangays, and none of the newly elected punong barangays is challenging Pallen following the deadline for filing of candidacy on Dec. 6.
The Association of Barangay Captains election will be held on Dec. 15.
According to Pallen, she sought re-election after Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez endorsed her during a meeting with all the punong barangays on Dec. 4.
Benitez cited Taculing as the only barangay that passed the performance guidelines he set: being one of the Seal of Good Local Governance awardees and their performance during the 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in October.
The village chief mentioned that, despite being identified as an ally of the previous administration, Benitez still gave his approval, citing that the present administration deals with barangay officials without regard to political color.
As the sure winner for the post, Pallen has three requests for her fellow barangay captains: to have respect, cooperate, and work according to their mandate.
“Because our ‘boss’ here are the people of Bacolod and no other,” she claimed./PN
