Region 6 PRISAA spikers clobber regions 3, 9

WESTERN Visayas’ secondary girls volleyball team cruised to an early advantage in the PRISAA 2018 National Games following a pair of victories at the Holy Name University Covered Court in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

The region, which is fresh from a third place finish in 2018 Palarong Pambansa in Vigan, Ilocos Sur, opened its campaign on Monday night with a 25-15, 25-7 victory over Region 3 behind the collective efforts of Shane Carmona and Kiesha Bedonia.

They later followed this up with a lopsided 25-6, 25-7 domination over Region 3 with Alyssa Bertolano, Yen yen Celiz and seldomly-used players Rhean Almendralejo and Joan Monares.

“This is a good start for us but the tournament is still a long way to go,” said Western Visayas assistant coach Biboy Calamba. “We cannot afford to let our guard down since other teams are also dangerous.”

The region also had a good start in the secondary girls beach volleyball as the trio of Joan Doguna, Marixi Maligmat and Nohlin Jundana edged Region 5 (21-5) and Region 11 (21-16) over at the VDT Advanced Learning Center Campus.

“Having a 2-0 start is no guarantee since madami pa kaming games na lalaruin,” said coach Evelyn Aguillon. “Although ang edge siguro nila ay matagal na silang magkakasama so kabisado na nila ‘yung mga galaw.”

In women’s volleyball, Western Visayas’ squad opened its campaign with a 25-10, 25-18, 25-18 straight set victory over Region 3 in a match held at the Bohol Institute of Technology Gym.

In secondary boys basketball, the region cruised to a 72-51 victory over Region 12 over at the Poblacion Dauis Gym. In women’s softball at the HNU, WV blanked Region 7, 19-0./PN
