ILOILO City – With the onset of the rainy season looming, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) has intensified its disaster preparedness measures, ensuring that both personnel and equipment are ready to respond to emergencies triggered by typhoons, floods, and other natural calamities.
PRO-6 director Brigadier General Jack Wanky said the regional police force is fully equipped and committed to support communities across Western Visayas in times of disaster.
On May 21, Wanky personally led a comprehensive inspection of the region’s disaster response assets, including rescue equipment, communication gear, transport vehicles, and other vital tools to evaluate their operational readiness.
“We ensured that all items were fully functional and ready for deployment in the event of emergencies. Our rescue teams are also ready,” Wanky told Panay News.
Wanky emphasized that the police’s role goes beyond law enforcement. In times of crisis, he said, the Philippine National Police (PNP) plays a critical role in search, rescue, and retrieval operations, as well as in maintaining order in evacuation centers and disaster-affected areas.
“To complement our equipment upgrades, we are also strengthening the capabilities of our personnel through continuous training and close coordination with local government units and partner agencies,” Wanky added./PN
