‘Remove Bacolod illegal billboards’

BACOLOD City – The campaign against illegal billboards in the city should be intensified, according to the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP).

In a resolution approved last week, the SP tasked the Office of the Building Official and the City Legal Office to strictly enforce City Ordinance No. 647 series of 2013, or the “Outdoor Advertising Signs and Sign Structures Code of Bacolod City.”

The ordinance targets billboards and other advertising materials that do not have necessary city permits.

Resolution proponent Councilor Caesar Distrito said several billboards found along the major streets in Bacolod do not comply with the standards set in the code.

He added that the billboards risk the safety of the public, particularly passers-by and motorists.

“They could break or fall anytime particularly during typhoons and other calamities,” Distrito said.

The councilor said the OBO and the CLO should issue a cease and desist order or a removal order against the illegal billboards./PN
