ILOILO City – Police personnel of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) were directed to renew their firearm licenses as soon as possible.
Brigadier General Sidney Villaflor, PRO-6 acting director, directed police personnel across the region to also process their permit to carry firearm outside of residence (PTCFOR).
“Kung hindi na-renew ang papeles ng kanilang baril magiging loose firearms na ‘yan,” Villaflor told Panay News.
Philippine National Police director for operations Brigadier General Leo Francisco recently reminded police officers and soldiers to set a good example to civilians on firearm ownership.
Francisco said as of May 26, there were 1.15 million valid firearms license holders.
Of the 539,000 firearms with unrenewed licenses, 9,700 were from the police and 9,200 were from military personnel, he added.
From Jan. 1 to May 26, there were 11,417 loose firearms confiscated.
On the other hand, Lieutenant Colonel Nicel Jan Garsuta, spokesperson of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID), said they have to account for how many soldiers failed to renew the papers of their guns.
“We would like to remind them na asikasuhin na ang papeles ng baril nila or baka ang iba ay ongoing ang processing,” Garsuta said./PN
