Syudad sang ILOILO – Nagpasar ang Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) sang resolusyon nga nagapamatok sa renewal sang franchise sang Panay Electric Company (PECO). Kalakip man diri ang posible nga government takeover tubtob nga makasulod ang kwalipikado nga distributor.
Pero antes napasar ang resolusyon nga ginduso ni Konsehal RLeone Gerochi, nag-agi anay ini sa mainit nga diskusyon kahapon.
Una nga ginkwestiyon ni Konsehal Joshua Alim ang titulo sang resolusyon ni Gerochi nga hugot nga nagapamatok sa franchise renewal sang PECO kag nagtalana sang mga kondisyon nga maamligan ang mga konsumidor kon aprubahan sang kongreso ang aplikasyon sang PECO.
“Kon nagapamatok kita dapat mabaskug. Indi na dapat hatagan sang buho ang kongreso nga makalusot ang PECO. Kon amo man lang na ang aton panindugan, makapaminsar pa ang kongreso. Dapat bug-os ang aton mabakud nga panindugan,” pahayag ni Alim.
Ginpanugyan pa ni Alim nga dulaon na ang kondisyon nga ginbutang ni Gerochi. Apang ginpanindugan ni Gerochi nga kinahanglan may fallback ang syudad sa tion nga magdesisyon ang kongreso nga aprubahan ang franchise sang PECO.
“Isa man lang ang aton panindugan diri. It’s to oppose the franchise renewal of PECO but we need to have a fallback in case the congress decides to approve the franchise. How sure are you the congress will not approve the renewal of PECO franchise?” paathag ni Gerochi.
Sang ginduso ni Gerochi ang approval sang resolusyon, nagtindog naman si Konsehal Plaridel Nava agud kwestiyunon ang paggamit sang puersa sang mayoriya sang administrasyon. Pahayag niya tion na nga ipakita sang mga Ilonggo ang mabakud nga oposisyon sa mga abuso sang PECO.
“Can we have a resolution manifesting and conveying our strong opposition? That is all that we want a manifestation that we do not want another 25 years, that is all,” pahayag ni Nava.
Matapos ang malawig nga diskusyon, nagpasugot si Gerochi sa panugyan ni Alim kag napasar ang resolusyon nga may isaka abstention gikan kay Konsehal Eduardo Peñaredondo. Para sa majority floor leader ginsako-sako preparar ang resolusyon. Indi man madali sunu sa iya ang government takeover bangod malawig ini nga proseso.
“Hastily prepared ang resolution nga ginpasar. Meaning nagpasar lang sila resolution the body did not think what’s next? Kon nag-expire ang PECO kag may government takeover, which government?” pamangkot pa ni Peñaredondo.
Sa bahin ni Mikel Afzelius, Corporate Communications Officer sang PECO, ginpahayag sini nga handa nga mabuylog ang kompaniya sa SP para sa kauswagan sang syudad sa pihak sang ginpasara nga resolusyon.
“We would always want to work together with the city council for the progress of Iloilo City despite the resolution passed. With regards to a government takeover, there are technicalities and laws involved in that and so far the national government has not given any intentions for a takeover. We will continue to work on our projects and programs for the improvement of our services and progress of the city,” reaksyon ni Afzelius sa resolusyon sang konseho./PB
