ROXAS City – A mobile procurement team has been deployed to Capiz towns to buy palay from farmers.
It was part of the National Food Authority’s (NFA) intensified buying of palay products, according to Mary Christie Hari-on, information officer for the agency’s provincial office.
The procurement team was closely coordinating with local government officials and municipal agriculture officers, Hari-on said.
It was buying rice in Maayon, Pontevedra and Jamindan every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, respectively.
Other municipalities who wish to be visited by the procurement team may coordinate with the NFA provincial office, she said.
NFA-Capiz has bought 48,086 bags as of Oct. 21 — already 100.21-percent higher than its 40,000-bag procurement target — Hari-on disclosed.
When milled, the procured palay is equivalent to 31,256 bags of rice, she said.
The NFA has simplified its requirements for buying palay.
The agency now accepts dry and wet palay with up to 30-percent moisture content. It also provides additional incentives, such as drying fee, delivery fee and cooperative development fee for cooperatives. (PIA/PN)
