BACOLOD City – Vice President Leni Robredo will visit this city for the first time since her election in May for the culmination of the campaign to end violence against women (VAW) on Dec. 17.
Robredo will also lead the awarding of the best barangay anti-VAW offices.
She will grace the program from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Bacolod Pavillon Hotel, the organizer Atty. Andrea Lizares-Si said.
Admission is free, Si said. She hopes the public from various sectors can hear Robredo speak.
The campaign kicked off on Nov. 25, the National Consciousness Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Children.
Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and several councilors led the anti-VAM campaign launch, sponsored by the city’s Gender and Development Council, at the Bacolod City Government Center lobby.
“End violence against women now,” Familiaran then said.
He stressed that there are laws protecting women.
“These laws exist not because women are weaker vessels, as they say, but because [they] are susceptible to abuses because due to their patience, fortitude and forbearance to preserve relationships,” said the vice mayor./PN
