San Beda bags NCAA football crown

San Beda University Red Booters

MANILA – San Beda University Red Booters are back on top after capturing the NCAA Season 94 men’s football crown with a 1-0 win over Arellano University Chiefs in the one-game finale at the PFF National Training Centre in Carmona, Cavite.

Jessie Riel Semblante played the heroes role as he knocked in the lone goal of the match to hand the Red Booters its 11th NCAA men’s football championship in the last 13 years.

Both teams struggled to have a decent attempt in the opening half due to tight defending by the Red Booters and Chiefs’ goal keepers and the trend continues in the second frame.

With the match poised to heading to an extension, the Liloan, Cebu native Semblante broke the deadlock at the 87th minute as he drilled a free kick from the right side into the goalmouth.

The Red Booters’ title victory in the seniors division made up for their high school counterparts’ defeat in the juniors’ football final.

Arellano scored a 1-0 win of its own against San Beda in the juniors division finals through a Jimmen Catap goal midway through the first half. It was the schools’ first ever NCAA high school title./PN
