BACOLOD City – A former inmate was shot in broad daylight on March 11 in Sitio Kainggat, Barangay 1, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, with police investigators looking into illegal drugs as a possible motive.
The victim, identified as Joelito Javoc, 25, a resident of the area, was attacked past 10 a.m. Police reported that the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was in critical condition at the hospital as of press time.
Investigation revealed that residents discovered the wounded victim lying face down on the ground after hearing consecutive gunshots.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Nazer Canja, chief of the San Carlos City Police Station, stated that they are currently prioritizing a “drug-related incident” as the primary angle behind the shooting.
Records show that Javoc was previously arrested in 2019 following a drug buy-bust operation. He was released from a jail facility only last year.
Canja added that they are also considering an old grudge or personal dispute as a potential motive for the crime.
As of this writing, San Carlos City police were continuing their investigation to identify the perpetrator and determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident./PN
