SAN JOSE, Antique – The Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council here afforded the public to see the response capability of the town’s disaster and emergency response capabilities through an activity dubbed Disaster Preparedness and Response Exhibit.

“The local government of San Jose is now active in disaster preparedness and in responding to any eventualities,” said Mayor Elmer Untaran.

Untaran called on the public to be vigilant for any disaster in order to prevent if not minimize loss of lives, and properties.

He urged everyone to further enhance skills and knowledge about disaster preparedness.

The event is in line with the observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month with the theme “Kahandaan sa Sakuna’t Peligro para sa Tunay na Pagbabago.”

Alex Crespo of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRM) said the event was participated in by their partner agencies such as the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard and Kabalikat Civicom 263.

Other highlights include first aid demonstration and distribution of IEC materials.

Crespo said that the very foundation of a prepared local government unit (LGU) is the kind of preparedness of the residents in their everyday efforts to reduce risks and prepare their own local response mechanisms to address disaster emergency situations.

The MDRRM officer also mentioned some of the flood-prone areas in San Jose, which include barangays Bariri, Supa, Inabasan, Bugarot, Cansadan, Tubudan, San Pedro and Durog, among others.

He said that disaster rescue equipment is needed in order to boost the LGUs preparedness and resilience. (With PIA Antique/PN)
