THE municipality of San Miguel squad clinched the title in friendly volleyball games held as part of the annual Handuraw Festival in Leon, Iloilo.
San Miguel bested all its competitors in group stages and the playoffs before subduing Team Dolphins in the tight final match.
Alma Cagalitan Capilastique of the Leon Volleyball Association was thankful they were able to invite at least eight squads despite the short notice.
“I just want to thank the eight participating teams for joining us in celebrating Handuraw Festival 2018 even without early planning for this volleyball tournament,” said Capilastique.
Other participating teams in the Sept. 1 event are St. Catherine Parochial School-Leon, Immaculate Concepcion Academy-Oton, Buga National High School, Integros-Pototan, Super Virgins, and Olympian.
“The LEVA is also thankful to the volleyball community of Leon who, because of the love for the sport, have shown their support in any way they could to make this event a huge success,” she added. “We will make sure to have a bigger event next year.”
Unlike other tournaments, the Leon games used a different format – race-to-30 points with change court when a team reaches 15 points, and the application of the points system in case of a tie at the end of bracket matches./PN
