ILOILO City – A younger brother of Mayor Gaseva Recopuerto of Sebaste, Antique surrendered his .45 pistol to the town’s police.
According to Sebaste police chief Major Anthony Grande in a report forwarded to the Police Regional Office 6, his men checked 30-year-old Ge Jasper Recopuerto at his house as part of the police station’s “Tokhang Kontra Armas Luthang” on April 26, Sunday.
Ge Jasper turned over to the police a .45 pistol with three bullets, unlicensed, said Grande.
On Saturday night (April 25, 9 p.m.) a gun-firing incident on Esparagoza Street, Barangay Poblacion near Mayor Recopuerto’s house was reported to the Sebaste police station.
According to Grande, policemen immediately checked Esparagoza Street.
However, though they managed to recover three spent bullet shells on the street, there was no one there anymore for the cops to arrest or question about the reported incident, according to Grande.
Now, the Sebaste police station is in a dilemma. With no one coming forward to testify, filing a complaint such as for alarm and scandal or illegal discharge of firearm would be difficult, said Grande.
He lamented the hesitance of people to come out and become witnesses.
From what he had so far gathered, according to Grande, there was some kind of quarrel before bursts of gunfire were heard.
The recovered spent bullet shells and the .45 pistol would be analyzed, said Grande./PN
