IBAJAY, Aklan – A 61-year-old drug pushing suspect was arrested here on May 11 by operatives of the Aklan Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) in a buy-bust operation.
Melquaidez “Baby” Gomez was a resident of Surigao Del Sur but presently staying in Purok 4, Barangay Laguinbanua, Ibajay.
An undercover police officer bought from the suspect P25,000 worth of shabu around 7:40 p.m.
Seven more small sachets of suspected shabu were seized.
Gomez claimed he was merely asked to deliver sachets of shabu valued at P200,000 for a P2,500 tip.
But according to Aklan PDEU chief Lieutenant Colonel Frensy Andrade, the suspect was placed under surveillance for over a month prior to the buy-bust.
Gomez, detained at the Ibajay police station, faces charges for violations of Section 5 (illegal sale of dangerous drugs) and Section 11 (illegal possession of drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
