ILOILO City – Sky Cable-Iloilo leaned on its veteran crew to score a 76-68 victory over the De La Salle University Green Archers in an exhibition match on Tuesday night at the Iloilo Sports Complex.
Cameroonian center Landry Sanjo led the way with 19 points while Negrense Mark Yee, Mel Mabigat and Chito Jaime combined for 29 markers for the Iloilo-based basketball team.
From a tightly-contested first quarter, the Green Archers surged to a 33-25 lead early in the second quarter on hits by Ricci Rivero, Aljun Melecio and Kirell Montalbo but the Sky Cable managed to come close just before the halftime break.
Sky Cable opened the third quarter with a 10-2 scoring run behind Sanjo and Yee to snatch the lead at 42-40.
It became a seesaw battle for both teams before the Sky Cable hanged on to a 52-49 lead heading into the final quarter.
Sky Cable pulled away further in the fourth quarter as baskets from Jaime, Mabigat and James Martinez allowed them to build its largest lead at 69-58. Green Archers tried to answer with its own rally but fell short.
Melecio finished with 18 points, while Rivero and Bacolodnon Montalbo contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively, for the Green Archers, which played without Cameroonian import Benoit Mbala.
In the preliminary game, Toto Tia Ten scored a 77-74 victory over the Lennard Car Center.
The Sky Cable-Green Archers exhibition match, which was organized by the Iloilo City government Sports Development Division of Rommel Castro, is in line with the city’s 80th Charter Day Celebration.
