Buy all you can. Drink all you can.
There is no more cap on the volume of alcoholic beverages that an individual could buy in Iloilo City.
However, drinking liquor in public is still prohibited, according to Mayor Jerry Treñas, and sellers should still not dispense alcoholic drinks to minors.
He issued Executive Order (EO) No. 080 regarding this yesterday amending EO No. 075-A that set the following limits:
* for whisky, brandy, gin, rum – maximum of two liters per person per day
* for wine, champagne – maximum of four liters per person per day
* for beer – maximum of one case per person per day
Treñas lifted the liquor ban on May 16 when the city transitioned from enhanced community quarantine to general community quarantine. However, he set limits on purchases, noting that some people tended to inebriate themselves to the point of becoming unruly or even violent.
The mayor previously lifted the liquor ban on April 21 but re-imposed it the next day. It was a mistake, he acknowledged.
“Various incidents due to intoxicated persons” promoted him to backtrack, according to Treñas.
He also cited “the many other important activities undertaken by our security personnel” and the “advice coming from various sectors.”
“There were several reported incidents and complaints (of) abuse in (the) consumption of alcohol, and violations of physical distancing measures, hence the need to re-impose the prohibition on the sale and consumption of liquor,” according to Treñas.
Also yesterday, Treñas adjusted the quarantine curfew hours. It is now from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. from the previous 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Exempted from the curfew are those who work in business process outsourcing, warehouses and logistics (and similar businesses), ports, arrastre, food manufacturing, storage and preservation, hospitals, media, and other businesses or occupations that require employees to go to work after the curfew hours./PN
This is a sad day for school children when the Mayor and Governor in an overabundance of ignorance about the corona virus infection fatality rates on young people ages 1-39 worldwide never reaches more than .2%. A years absence from school is devastating for children in their educational and social development, not to mention the burden on parents to spend or stay home(not work). Both these officials are kicking the can(transfer the serious thoughts on public transportation) to the parents so they can avoid thinking about a solution. The virus will be with us for a while, so what about next year? Postpone again? and the year after that? An adult brain will not magically improve in a couple of years. If you cannot think of a solution, RESIGN, and give more intelligent and pragmatic people a chance to get us out of this mess. The only thing that this decision promotes is the continued hysteria fanning that everybody will die of Covid19. So sad, I thought the Philippines would have more of its brightest serve our people, I guess brain drain took care of that. Now all we have is a continued abrogation of our constitutional rights and the mass destruction of our economy. , hunger and unemployment. If we do not rethink all these martial law like policies, we are doomed! Just think, you think anybody will retire in or visit the philippines when you have a 14 day quarantine requirement at ports of entry? The tourist sector is already DEAD! I can now foresee a max exodus of retirees from the USA and other countries because of the current official discrimination of seniors 60+. NOBODY will want to come here! As for domestic tourism, you’ve got to be kidding!, there is no appetite(pun intended) for spending except for food and medicine. Remember your lockdowns? So God help us! Oh, I forgot all churches are still in lockdown.
