ILOILO City – Philippine Army soldiers have been tapped to help enforce the lockdown in barangays ordered to be under such due to rising cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Mayor Jerry Treñas asked for their help and he said an initial 20 soldiers were immediately mobilized.
Army Major Cenon Pancito III, spokesperson of the Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry Division (3ID), confirmed that the soldiers were deployed to Iloilo City on Aug. 15.
The soldiers were from the 61st Infantry Battalion.
“Handa tayong tumulong kasi alam natin na hindi lang COVID-19 ang inaasikaso ng pulis,” said Pancito.
According to city government COVID-19 team spokesperson Jeck Conlu, over 600 households are affected by the lockdowns.
On Aug. 18, the team recommended the total lockdown of Barangay Rizal Estanzuela in the City Proper.
Here is the status of several barangays:
In Lapuz district:
* Sinikway – four cases, 15 households in Block 4 on lockdown
* Mansaya – four cases, strict home quarantine, lockdown of households with confirmed cases
* Bo. Obrero – six cases, surgical lockdown of homes in Zone 1, 10 households affected
In Jaro district:
* Tacas – NIA Compound only, surgical lockdown
* Quintin Salas – surgical lockdown
* Benedicto – strict home quarantine of confirmed cases only
In Mandurriao district:
* Bolilao – strict home quarantine of new cases
* Taft North – strict home quarantine of new cases
In the City Proper
* Sto. Rosario Duran – strict home quarantine
* Pala-Pala 2 – extended lockdown
In Molo district:
* San Juan – extended lockdown
* East Timawa – surgical lockdown
* Kasing-kasing – surgical lockdown
* East Baluarte – surgical lockdown
* Calumpang – strict home quarantine of new cases
In Arevalo:
* Calaparan – extended lockdown of Zone 10 and Zone 15
* Sto. Niño Sur – strict home quarantine
* Quezon – strict home quarantine/PN
