BACOLOD City – A resolution declaring business tycoon Kevin L. Tan an adopted son of this city was passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) during its regular session on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Councilor Jason Villarosa, proponent of the resolution, said the city council unanimously approved the resolution after Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez submitted a letter-request.

The mayor recognized Tan’s “invaluable efforts and contributions” to bring investments to the city.

Tan is the chief executive officer and vice chairman of Alliance Global Inc., a holding company dabbling in real estate through Megaworld Corporation, hospitality and property management through Travellers International Hotel Group Inc., and liquor through Emperador Inc.

The impact of Tan’s investments on Bacolod’s economy cannot be understated, according to Villarosa.

In 2020, during the Bacolaodiat Festival, the city council also approved a resolution declaring Tan’s father, Dr. Andrew Lim Tan, an adopted son of Bacolod.

Other Filipino-Chinese businessmen conferred the title “adopted son of Bacolod” were Lucio Tan, John Gokongwei Jr., Henry Sy, and Eduardo Cojuangco Jr./PN
