POTOTAN, Iloilo – St. John’s Institute Baby Falcons settled for a runner up finish in the Small Basketeers of the Philippines category of the 34th SBP/Passerelle Twin Tournament Regional Finals at the Pototan Astrodome.
The Baby Falcons, which represented Bacolod City in the regionals, fell short of its comeback bid in the championship match against University of Visayas Baby Lancers, 40-35.
The Baby Lancers were on top 26-20 after three quarters before the Baby Falcons mounted a huge run early in the fourth period to take a 35-32 advantage on a triple by John Miguel Sy and a layup by Santino Loretizo.
The Baby Lancers answered with back-to-back triples from Denver Bisnar and Neil John Bernante to take a 38-35 with four seconds left. After a Baby Falcons turnover, the UV sealed the win with two free throws.
John Louie Baul paced the Baby Lancers with 13 points, while Karl John Agravante was the lone double-digit scorer for the Falcons also with 13 markers.
The back-to-back SBP champions Baby Lancers reached the finals after defeating Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion of Roxas, 42-32, and Hua Siong College of Iloilo, 53-22.
The Baby Falcons, on the other hand, had a 57-56 escape over Purisima before a close 50-47 win over Hua Siong./PN
