BACOLOD City – The Manokan Country Vendors’ Association will ask the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) to hold another public hearing to settle their outstanding arrears with the city government.

In July, the Commission on Audit released the names of 26 Manokan Country stall owners with unpaid rental fees and surcharges amounting to about P6.8 million to the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO).

The CTO had already sent two demand letters to the stall owners, one in July and another this month.

City Treasurer Giovanni Balalilhe said if the stall owners still fail to pay their balances before Sept. 18, their names will be forwarded to the City Legal Office. Balalilhe also warned them of closure.

Councilor Bartolome Orola, chairman of the SP committee on markets and slaughterhouses,   conducted a public hearing held on Sept. 12 upon the request of David Montoya, president of Manokan Country Vendor’s Association.

During the public hearing, Montoya asked for the condonation of their penalties. Balalilhe responded by telling Montoya to seek the SP’s help.

Montoya will send a letter to the city council and Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran next week./PN
