BACOLOD City – The City Treasurer’s Office (CTO) sent a second demand letter to Manokan Country stall owners who have outstanding arrears with the city government.
“We sent them the demand letter on Aug. 18,” said City Treasurer Giovanni Balalilhe. “If they still fail to settle their accounts, their names will be forwarded to the City Legal Office.”
In July, the Commission on Audit released the names of 26 Manokan Country stall owners with unpaid rental fees and surcharges amounting to about P6.8 million to the CTO.
Earlier, City Administrator John Orola warned stall owners of closure if they fail to pay their balances before October.
David Montoya, president of Manokan Country Vendor’s Association, having received the first demand letter in July, asked Councilor Bartolome Orola to conduct a public hearing regarding their balances.
In response, Councilor Orola – chairman of the Sangguninag Panlungsod committee on markets and slaughterhouses – scheduled the public hearing on Sept. 12 at the Bacolod City Government Center.
However, the City Treasurer’s Office demanded answer from the stall owners within 10 days upon receipt of the second letter.
“We will answer the demand letter after the hearing,” Montoya said.
Montoya added they will follow whatever decision may be made during the public hearing, even the closure of their stalls./PN
