BACOLOD City – The Bacolod Anti-Smoking Task Force (BASTF) identified persons authorized to collect smoking ban fines.
Members of the task force’s action teams, who have been apprehending violators since Sept. 4, were not authorized to collect fines, according to BASTF vice chairman Caesar Distrito.
“Only cashiers of the City Treasurer’s Office at the old city hall, Bacolod City Government Center, City Health Office, Bacolod City Police Office, and Bacolod Traffic Authority Office are authorized to collect fines and no one else,” stressed Distrito, who also chairs the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on laws, ordinances and good government.
The members of the action team were briefed not to collect fines, he added.
The councilor advised the public to report an action team member or anyone who pretends to be an action team member collecting fines.
“Action team members have been issued their identification cards and citation tickets for apprehensions. They also wear a uniform,” said Distrito.
BASTF already caught 116 violators as of yesterday: 88 were male, 6 female and establishments, 22./PN
