MANILA — Alec Stockton redeemed himself from a previous off night with a commanding all-around performance, powering the Converge FiberXers to a gritty 99-94 win over the Blackwater Bossing in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Determined to make up for his struggles in their earlier loss to San Miguel, Stockton delivered under pressure — knocking down four crucial free throws and anchoring the defense that shut down Blackwater’s final play.
The former FEU Tamaraw exploded for 28 points, along with two rebounds, two steals, and two blocks to earn Player of the Game honors.
“I think it was tough at the start because they were able to contain us with our defense. We just made some adjustments in the second half,” Stockton said. “I am just extra motivated to bounce back because I had an awful game the last time out.”
Converge’s supporting cast also stepped up, with rookie Juan Gomez de Liaño contributing 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists, while Justine Baltazar and Justin Arana both posted double-doubles of 11 points and 14 boards, and 11 points and 11 rebounds, respectively. The FiberXers improved their record to 4-2.
Sedrick Barefield spearheaded the Bossing’s offense with 33 points, followed by Christian David’s 18. Dalph Panopio and Abu Tratter chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively, as Blackwater slipped to 1-5.
Meanwhile, in the second game, Robert Bolick Jr. rediscovered his scoring touch as NLEX Road Warriors overpowered Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 105-91. Bolick, limited to just four points in their previous defeat to Barangay Ginebra, erupted for 28 points, six rebounds, and five assists to lead NLEX to a 5-2 slate.
JB Bahio tallied 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Xyrus Torres added 15 markers. Jonnel Policarpio and Dominick Fajardo also chipped in 10 apiece for the Road Warriors./PN
