BACOLOD City – Four quarantine personnel were deployed to the city amid the bird flu outbreak in Pampanga.
The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) assigned two personnel at the Bredco port and another two at the Department of Agriculture Negros Island Region office yesterday.
Birds and their products that will enter the city will be either returned to their source or be burned.
BAI issued a memorandum banning the transfer of live domestic and wild birds and their products from Luzon to Visayas and Mindanao.
It was after the outbreak killed 36,485 birds, including quails, layer chickens and ducks in San Luis, Pampanga.
The city is expecting a vessel from Metro Manila, said City Veterinarian Ma. Agueda Trinidad Dela Torre.
However, Dela Torre has yet to confirm if the vessel carries birds and/or eggs.
There were no reports of bird flu cases in Bacolod, said the City Health Office’s Environmental Sanitation Division head Grace Tan./PN
