ILOILO – A powerlifting competition was held on December 7, 2024 in Pavia, Iloilo.

Called “Strength Wars”, the tournament – supported by the Powerlifting Association of the Philippines (PAP) – was organized by YARD Fitness Iloilo, together with Apex Fitness Antique and Giant Training System Bacolod.

Allan Paje, the national team coach for para-powerlifting and coach of world powerlifting medalists and Asian record holders, was present at the event.

Powerlifting is a strength-based sport that focuses on three main lifts: the squat, bench press, and deadlift.

The objective in powerlifting is to lift as much weight as possible in each of these lifts, following specific techniques and rules to ensure safety and fairness.

Each lifter gets three attempts per lift, and the best attempt for each lift is added together to form a total score. Competitors are ranked by their total within their weight and age categories.

YARD Fitness Iloilo, Apex Fitness Antique, and Giant Training System Bacolod are committed to promoting and growing the sport of powerlifting in Western Visayas. They are excited to host more competitions in the years to come.

Powerlifting is practiced recreationally and competitively. It is recognized as a sport that fosters discipline, physical strength, and personal growth./PN
