ILOILO — The municipal government of Dueñas has formally implemented the rule of succession, with No. 1 Sangguniang Bayan (SB) member Pia June Pama assuming the vice mayoralty following the death of Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamasan.

Pama took her oath of office before Mayor Robert Pama at the Dueñas Municipal Hall on Monday morning, January 5.

The vice mayor’s position became vacant after Lamasan died in what authorities earlier described as an accidental firing involving her own .9mm pistol on December 30, 2025 inside her residence at a subdivision in La Paz, Iloilo City.

Pama is the daughter of former Dueñas mayor Pio Boy Pama and a distant relative of Mayor Robert Pama.

The appointment follows established succession rules for local government units, as earlier emphasized by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., who said the next-in-rank councilor automatically moves up in the event of a vacancy in the vice mayoralty.

With Pama’s assumption of office, discussions are now ongoing among local government officials on how to fill the SB seat she vacated, according to sources at the municipal level./PN
