Superliga: F2 Logistics trips Cignal in Game 1, nears crown

MANILA – F2 Logistics Cargo Movers got its act together in the fifth set to pull off a 25-22, 26-24, 17-25, 18-25, 15-8 win over Cignal HD Spikers in Game 1 of the 2019 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Filipina-Hawaiian Kalei Mau tallied 27 points, including 25 attacks, one block and a service ace on Saturday while Victorinara Galang and Mary Joy Baron added 11 markers apiece.

Kim Fajardo contributed 17 excellent sets and 21 excellent digs to go along with four points, while Dawn Macandili had 22 excellent digs.

The Cargo Movers surged to a 1-0 edge in the best-of-three championship series.

After failing to close out the HD Spikers in the third and fourth set, the Cargo Movers started strong in the decided with a 9-4 edge on shots from Mau, Galang and Kim Kianna Dy.

The HD Spikers rallied to within 6-9 but the Cargo Movers took advantage of the paltry defense of their opponent with hits from Desiree Cheng, Galang and Baron ended the match.

Jannine Navarro tallied 16 points, all coming from attacks, while Guimarasnon Jovelyn Gonzaga and Alohi Robins-Hardy submitted 12 and 11 markers, respectively, for the HD Spikers.

Meanwhile, Petron Blaze Spikers salvaged a bronze medal finish after a 28-26, 25-27, 25-21, 24-26, 15-12 victory over Foton Tornadoes. Cherry Rondina finished with 33 points, built on 30 attacks, for Petron./PN
