CERES Negros’ title-retention bid in the 2018 Philippines Football League was dealt with a huge blow, with veteran midfielder Manuel Ott set to miss time due to an eye injury.

Ott is set to undergo surgery for a broken eye socket, Ceres assistant coach Ian Treyes told Panay News.

“He (Ott) will be out for at least two months as his eye injury requires surgery,” Treyes said Tuesday. “His target date of return to action is on the first leg of the AFC Cup zonal finals on Aug. 2.”

Ott, a Philippine Azkals mainstay, sustained the injury during their 1-1 draw with JPV Marikina on Saturday in Biñan, Laguna where his eye was inadvertently poked by Ryuki Kozawa.

Ott grimaced in pain while being stretchered out of the stadium after the incident. He was rushed to the nearby University of Perpetual Help Medical Center.

Ceres head coach Risto Vidakovic did not hide his disappointment that Kozawa was not penalized even with a yellow card.

“Nobody (from the league) protects the players,” he said. “One of my players went down on an injury and no yellow card was given to the JPV player.”/PN
