BACOLOD City – Almost two days after he went missing, a man was found dead – half-buried – in a hilly portion of Barangay Pinapugasan, Escalante City, Negros Occidental.
Chief Inspector Rollie Pondevilla, officer-in-charge of the Escalante City police station, identified the man as the 44-year-old resident Danilo Banzon.
Banzon was reported missing around 10 p.m. on Sunday and was found around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, a police report showed.
Banzon was already in the state of decomposition – covered with stones under a Mahogany and Eucalyptus trees – when his relatives found him.
Banzon had a bashed head which the police said was struck with a pointed object. He also had four stab wounds on the body, the police added.
The area where Banzon was found is near the boundary of Barangay San Isidro, Toboso, Negros Occidental and Barangay Pinapugasan, Escalante City. It is where an illegal cockfight, or tari-tari, was held on Sunday.
Pondevilla said they were looking into “persons of interest” who had an altercation with Banzon that day.
