BACOLOD City – Police in Calatrava, Negros Occidental have arrested a suspect in the death of a 61-year-old woman in the town.
Rodel Manait, 38, was a neighbor of the victim Rebecca Bracamonte in Sitio Caridad, Barangay Patun-an, Calatrava, said Chief Inspector John Joel Batusbatusan, municipal police chief.
Their investigation led police officers to Manait on Wednesday.
Bracamonte was found lifeless with her throat slashed at around 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
A family member found her unconscious more than two hours after she went outside their house to reap at a nearby sugarcane plantation, police said.
A pail drenched with blood was found beside Bracamonte.
Batusbatusan said they have found inconsistencies in the suspect’s statements.
Questioning Manait’s mental health, he said they may refer him to a psychiatrist as they continue the investigation./PN
