MANILA – F2 Logistics Cargo Movers bagged the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix title after beating Petron Blaze Spikers 25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 25-18 in the do-or-die Game 3 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Grand Prix MVP awardee Maria Jose Perez of Venezuela led Cargo Movers with 24 points. Cha Cruz added 16 points, 12 excellent receptions and eight digs.

With the victory, Cargo Movers exacted revenge on Blaze Spikers for its loss in the grueling best-of-three All-Filipino Conference finals series in July.

Cargo Movers opened the match on Saturday with a 9-3 lead on early hits by Perez. Blaze Spikers managed to come to within 11-12 but Cargo Movers slowly pulled away anew 24-18 on hits by Perez, Mary Joy Baron and Desiree Cheng.

Both teams exchanged leads early in the second set with the score knotted at 13-all before Cargo Movers turned to Cruz, Perez and Aby Maraño to create distance 24-18 and easily build a 2-0 set lead.

After losing the third set, Cargo Movers had a strong start in the fourth for a 20-13 lead.

Blaze Spikers rallied to within 17-20 but Cargo Movers went on a finishing run behind Perez, Cruz and Kim Fajardo to clinch the title.

Alam naman natin na mahirap kalaban ang Petron kasi halos lahat ng talented players nasa kanila but ginusto lang ng mga players ko,” said Cargo Movers head coach Ramil de Jesus.

Hillary Hurley was the lone bright spot with 25 points – 22 attacks, two blocks and a service ace – for Blaze Spikers, which posted its third consecutive runner-up finish in Grand Prix./PN
