BACOLOD City – After receiving their cash cards, some teachers who served during the elections complained that they cannot get their honoraria through automated teller machines (ATM).
The teachers went to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to air the problem yesterday.
City Election Officer Mavil Sia said the Development Bank of the Philippines has a system glitch that is why their ATMs could not disburse cash.
“It cannot be prevented,” said Sia, adding that this is the second time they encountered the problem. The first one happened in 2016.
Sia made the complainants fill up a Certificate of Election Service Rendered form which they brought to the bank for the release of their honoraria over the counter.
She added that they are still releasing the cash cards of 2,820 teachers who served on election day on Monday.
The teachers were either chairpersons or members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) assigned at 47 polling precincts in the city in relation to the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
Those who served as BEI chairpersons are entitled to receive P7,000 each while the members, P6,000 each. These are inclusive of withholding tax worth P350.
The P475 travel allowance given to teachers on election day will also be deducted from their honoraria.
That leaves them with 6,175 for BEI chairpersons and 5,175 for members.
“Their cash cards are containing only P6,100. We will distribute to them the remaining P75,” Sia said.
