ILOILO City – Twenty-five people that included 14 church choir members of the Cabatuan, Iloilo parish were hospitalized in a suspected food poisoning.
They complained of dizziness, diarrhea and vomiting after attending a priest’s interment on Monday, said Cabatuan police chief Sullen Domingo.
The 25 were confined at the Ramon Tabiana Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Pungtod, Cabatuan.
Initial investigation showed they age egg sandwich after attending the afternoon funeral of Reverend Father Tomas Elias Guidorriagao.
“The 25 persons are now out of danger. They are getting better,” said Domingo yesterday.
Samples from the egg sandwiches were submitted to the Department of Health for analysis.
The Department of Health (DOH) has been reminding the public to be cautious with food especially this summer season.
Food, if improperly handled, particularly when it is left at room temperature for an extended period of time, may facilitate the growth of bacteria and become deteriorated as a result.
According to the World Health Organization, the five keys to safer food are the following:
(1) keep clean
(2) separate raw and cooked food
(3) cook food thoroughly
(4) keep food at safe temperatures
(5) use safe water and raw materials/PN
