MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts salvaged a fifth place finish in the 2017 Rebisco Volleyball League, which formally closed on Sunday night at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.
Thunderbolts once again got huge contributions from Ilongga Marianne Sotomil and Shane Carmona to score 25-17, 19-25, 25-12 against University of Mindanao-Tagum in their classification match.
“We are glad with our performance in the entire tournament. We are not expecting to finish at fifth,” said Jose Montalbo, Tay Tung’s vice chairman for sports. “I am proud that the girls showed their heart and determination to beat our opponents.”
Nazareth School of National University captured the title after defeating De La Salle University-Lipa 25-23, 24-26, 25-14, 25-12.
Nazareth’s Faith Nisperos, Alyssa Solomon and Ivy Lacsina survived the tough stand by De La Salle-Lipa in the first two sets before scoring lopsided triumphs in the third and fourth frames.
On their way to the finals, Nazareth beat Holy Rosary College 25-17, 25-13, 25-19 while De La Salle-Lipa eliminated Hope Christian High School 25-16, 25-21, 19-25, 18-25, 15-8.
Meanwhile, University of San Jose-Recoletos salvaged a seventh place finish by beating Leyte National High School 25-19, 25-6 while Far Eastern University-Diliman survived Koronadal National CHS 25-18, 26-24 for ninth place./PN
