CENTRAL Philippine University claimed the top spot of the Mariano C. Araneta Sr. Memorial Invitational Football Cup Under-13 category with double wins over the weekend at the Barotac Nuevo football field.
CPU first scored 10-0 against So-ol FC of Barotac Nuevo on Saturday behind conversions from Lian Celis, Ross Alfred Ferrer, Jhon Calmada, Selwyn Mamon, Hanz Javellana, Kent Ledesma, Rodge Jorn Montilla, and Jonlee Dile.
The next day CPU followed it up with another lopsided win against Lambunao FC 9-0 courtesy of goals by Montilla, Calmada, Dile, Mamon, Ryan Cubal, Jake Salazar, Francis Mediana, and Charles Mana-ay.
CPU was currently on top of the U-13 standings with a 2-0 win-loss record, followed by Tamasak Kickers (1-0), So-ol FC (1-1), Barotac Nuevo Selection (0-1), and Lambunao (0-2). The top two teams will advance to the semifinals.
Barotac Nuevo National High School also took the top spot in the Open category after winning its first two matches against Iloilo State College of Fisheries – Barotac Nuevo (5-0) and John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (8-0).
Against ISCOF-BN, Johnny Toledo Jr. made two goals while Wilmar Aguro, Jan Bernard Delariarte and Elmar Nathaniel Boblo executed one conversion each for BNNHS.
Delariarte and Toledo finished with a hat-trick each while Boblo and Jarlsom Derutas contributed a goal each in BNNHS’ win over JBLFMU.
Organized by the Barotac Nuevo Football Club (BNFC), the tournament tipped to last until Dec. 22 has drawn eight teams in U-13 and six teams in Open categories./PN
