MANILA – Bacolod Tay Tung High School made a short work of Malaysia’s Sarawak U-18 25-9, 25-7, at the start of the Rebisco Volleyball League 2018 National Finals at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Erika Jin Deloria was hailed as the player of the match after leading the Western Visayas representative with 8 points, on six attacks, one block and a service ace, on Saturday evening.

“I am just taking advantage of the playing time given to me by coach Ian (Macariola),” Deloria told Panay News. “That is my mind-set – to give my best every time I am on the court.”

Tay Tung got to a strong start in the first set as it built a double-digit edge on hits from Shane Carmona, Alyssa Bertolano and Joan Marie Monares. Errors from Sarawak allowed the Bacolodnons to easily close the set.

In the second set it was Deloria’s turn to detonate for Tay Tung as she came up with consecutive hits against the Sarawak defense to pull away. Kiesha Bedonia and Rhean Almendralejo also made hits for the one-sided win.

“To be honest we did not expect that we will have that kind of lopsided win,” said Tay Tung assistant coach Biboy Calamba. “Maybe our constant training and our tune-up matches helped us perform that way.”

After facing off with St. Alexine College late Sunday, Tay Tung was set to return to court at 6 p.m. Monday to battle Leyte National High School./PN
