BACOLOD City – Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts completed a sweep of all three divisions after ruling the 12-under, 15-under, and 17-under finals of the Abanse Negrense Grassroots Girls Volleyball Tournament on Monday at the Montalbo Court here.
In the 12-under championship, BacolodTay Tung edged Cebu, 25-22, 25-23, with Megan Ordaniel bannering the victors as Most Valuable Player and First Best Open Hitter.
She was joined by teammates Xyriz Cañete (Second Best Middle Blocker), Janselle Peromingan (Best Setter), Aijanna Palabrica (Best Libero), and Andrea Lim (Best Setter) among the awardees.
Cebu’s Mary Rivera (Second Best Open Hitter) and Veneice Mabida (First Best Middle Blocker) were also recognized.
“Of course, I am happy that we were able to win the championship. This showed that hard work and perseverance are the key to success,” head coach Roberto Calamba Jr. said.
The Bacolod-based squad also took the 15-under crown, overcoming Gwapo Sports Silay in three sets, 28-26, 18-25, 25-23, with Mari Antoinette Cacho emerging as MVP and Best Opposite Hitter.
Thunderbolts’ Marishka Andrada (Best Setter), Mary Regine Wongyan (First Best Open Hitter), Jessica Soco (Second Best Middle Blocker), and Luchi Vivero (Best Libero) also shone.
Gwapo Sports’ Kristel Mirasol (Second Best Open Hitter) and Sophie Pamplona (First Best Middle Blocker) received individual honors.
In the 17-under division, Tay Tung subdued St. John’s Institute Falcons, 25-19, 23-25, 25-23, 25-22, with Rhose Vianne Almendralejo earning MVP and First Best Open Hitter honors.
She was supported by Brianna Ang (First Best Middle Blocker), Alexa Bertolano (Best Opposite Hitter), and Jan Rose Bulak (Best Setter).
St. John’s Caera Celis (Second Best Open Hitter) and Samantha Young (Best Libero) also stood out with individual honors.
