BACOLOD Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts extended its domination at the sands after ruling the 2017 Nopsscea girls beach volleyball tournament in Bacolod City.
Thunderbolts – Nohlin Jundana, Marixi Maligmat and Joan Doguna – claimed the tiara after defeating St. John’s Institute 21-15, 21-7 on Sunday.
“Hard work paid off for Nohlin, Marixi and Joan,” said Jose Montalbo, Tay Tung’s vice chairman for sports. “The girls trained for months. They deserve this championship.”
Tay Tung also ruled elementary boys’ basketball by beating University of St. La Salle Baby Stingers 76-65 at the STI-West Negros University gym.
John Ordas led the way with 22 points, Thomas Pillado chipped in 15 markers, while Marvin delos Santos contributed 13 points for the Renato Callora-mentored Baby Thunderbolts.
Moreover, Tay Tung claimed the overall title in kakatedo. Paulina Liza Kalan won gold in kata and silver in kumite, while Francis Zohann Lita bagged gold in kumite and silver in kata.
Meanwhile SJI captured badminton gold medals in secondary girls (Ellana Tan, Mia Manguilomotan, Sophia Reyne Gustilo, Mariella Jereza, Pretzel Giana Ong, Mica Uy, and Alyanna Arceo) and elementary boys (Christopher Anglo, Brendan Lui Anglo, Allen Yusay, Gabriel Ananoria, Gabe Benedict Tan, Ronald Gustilo, and Ramon Feria) team events.
SJI failed to achieve a three-gold feat when its elementary girls’ team suffered a 2-1 defeat to St. Scholastica’s Academy. Its high school boys’ squad, on the other hand, settled for bronze./PN
