ILOILO City – A rumble between two groups of youngsters on Mabini Street, Barangay Flores, City Proper on Saturday night left one teenager wounded.
The 18-year-old Steven Silorar of Barangay Rizal Pala-pala, City Proper was taken to the Iloilo Doctors’ Hospital for a gunshot wound in the abdomen.
Three suspects were identified – Jeremy Gardose, 19, of Barangay Taslan, Tapaz, Capiz; Romnick Chichirita, 27, of Barangay Salakay, Cabatuan, Iloilo; and Frederick Cornita, 25, of Barangay Alaguisoc, Jordan, Guimaras.
The rumble happened around 11:50 p.m.
The suspects fled after Silorar was shot but Chichirita and Cornita were eventually arrested by pursuing policemen.
As of this writing, Gardose’s whereabouts were unknown.
Gardose was being tagged as the one with the gun.
It was unclear as of this writing why the two groups of clashed.
Youth gangs are getting aggressive but stripped of his power over the police, all that Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog can do now is make an appeal to the city’s law enforcers.
“I cannot anymore order the police what to do. But I hope the police would tighten security measures,” said Mabilog recently.
On Oct. 27 the National Police Commission (Napolcom) Region 6 received an order from the Department of Interior and Local Government and Napolcom central office stripping Mabilog of authority over the ICPO. This was almost three months after President Rodrigo Duterte publicly linked him to illegal drugs.
Mabilog denied being a drug coddler, pusher or user./PN
